Should I restore this piano, or should it be rebuilt, or should it be refurbished?  The answer to this and many other questions that are likely to present themselves lie in the purpose for the instrument.  If the purpose is for historical accuracy then a a full restoration is likely the best answer.  If an antique instrument is being returned to its rightful place in the performance world, then a complete rebiuld along with a new design is likely a good choice.  If it is to be a beautiful  piece of furniture, then a refurbish will likely fill the bill.  You can usually limit the expense and cross areas together but remember, at its core, a project goal has to be chosen before work begins in order to prevent any party from being financially straped to a given piano.
